Dive Experience Warning - learning to dive is addictive, once you start you will not want to stop!! The underwater environment is exciting, each dive offers the opportunity of encounters with the wonderful and in many ways strange marine life. Each dive is completely different so you can return to the same site and still see something new. The waters around our shores are teeming with fascinating life and overseas you can see coral gardens, whale sharks, manta rays and so much more. So whether you are a beginner who is seeking to learn to dive or even want to find out what it feels like to breathe underwater or an experienced diver looking to develop your diving skills further then we can help. The benefit of learning to dive with us ..........all our training is conducted in small groups so we can adjust the pace of learning to meet your needs and we aim to make learning fun. Try Dives - Discover Scuba This is your opportunity to find out what it is like to breathe underwater. We provide a short introduction to the basics of breathing underwater and the equipment you will use, then it is your opportunity to take your first breaths underwater under the guidance of a PADI professional. Once you are comfortable we will show you one or two simple skills and then over to you to have fun in a safe environment. Discover Scuba is conducted in a local heated pool and is available to anyone age 10 and over. If you are under 10 but 8 or over then we offer Bubblemaker and the PADI Seal Team. The PADI Seal Team Program gives you a chance to swim underwater and to experience the adventure and fun of breathing underwater. Why not have a birthday party with a difference.....invite your friends and share the fun. Younger Divers can continue to develop their diving skills and knowledge of the marine environment by joining Tommi's Club. Both Discover Scuba and PADI Seal team can earn you credit towards Open Water Diver . This is the first level of training which once successfully completed will earn you certification. The course is made up of five academic sessions or modules, five confined water sessions and four open water dives. There are two ways to complete the academic sessions homestudy or e-learning. Homestudy You will be provided in advance with a Crewpak which contains a manual for you to study at your leisure and complete the knowledge reviews. You will also be provided with access to training videos. Once you have completed your knowledge review then an Instructor will review these with you before you complete the quizzes. Then you will be able to start your underwater adventures. eLearning Alternatively you can complete the academic portion of the PADI Open Water Diver Course online with PADI elearning. You will work through the Knowledge Development sections and quizzes online. Whilst you are working through the PADI Open Water Diver Course online or after you have completed all the sections you can print off your elearning record and bring it along to us to start your underwater adventures. Underwater Adventures The confined water sessions each cover the skills contained within each of the five modules and are conducted in a heated pool. The four open water dives cover the skills learnt in the confined water and academic sessions and provide you with an underwater tour. As training is provided in small groups we can adjust the pace of training to meet your needs. Training can be provided in a number of ways - : . The pool sessions can be completed either over 6 evenings or over 2 days. . You then complete your 4 open water dives with us over 2 days usually over one weekend. These dives will be completed at Horsea or Vobster or under Selsey Pier depending on weather and other training courses being conducted or . You can complete your course by doing your open water dives overseas. This is called a Referral and for some reason is a popular option in winter! . Over the winter months the open water training dives can be completed with us overseas for an additional cost. We also offer Open Water courses focussed on UK Diving, Resort Diving and National Geographic. UK Diving focusses on skills needed to be a UK Diver and on successful completion you are awarded Open Water Diver and Dry Suit Diver. Resort Diving focusses on skills you need overseas including the use of Enriched Air Nitrox. National Geographic offers you the opportunity to become an underwater explorer and focusses on underwater navigation and buoyancy skills. . Or talk to us about tailoring a course for you. The next step, you have completed Open Water and are ready to move on (hooked yet?). This course is designed to give you a safe and easy method of gaining further supervised diving experience . It will help you to develop your general diving skills, as well as providing an insight into other more specialized areas of recreational diving. There are no formal classroom theory sessions instead you need to complete five Adventure dives - two mandatory dives and three optional dives. Once again you will be provided with a manual in advance and we will agree with you which Adventure dives you will be completing so that you can study at your leisure and complete the knowledge reviews. The course is normally run over two full days, usually over one weekend with the dives being completed at Selsey, Portland , Horsea or Vobster depending on weather and other training courses being conducted . We will review your knowledge reviews with you on site. The two mandatory dives are underwater navigation and deep . The optional dives available are Peak Performance Buoyancy , Dry Suit , Wreck , Boat, Search and Recovery, Underwater Naturalist, Night and Drift. We prefer one of the optional dives to be Peak Performance Buoyancy. . If you prefer Adventure dives can also to be completed on any of the organised holidays or dive trips provided this has arranged in advance. This course is designed to give you more confidence in your abilities as a competent diver. It will help you to develop your ability to prevent problems and develop the skills so that you can respond effectively in a diving emergency. You will learn basic first aid (Emergency First Response-EFR) and how to deal with a tired, panicked or distressed diver both on the surface and underwater, what to do if there is a missing diver and how to recover and treat an unconscious diver. Thus further developing your skills to look after yourself and assist others. The course is made up of academic sessions, confined water sessions and open water dives. As usual you will be provided in advance with your manual so that you can study at your leisure and complete the knowledge reviews. At our training centre you will watch training videos, then we will review knowledge reviews with you before you complete the quizz. The Rescue Course including EFR is normally completed over five days either three weekends or two weekends and two evenings. Once you have completed Rescue Diver, if you have five specialities then you are well on your way to achieving Master Scuba Diver. These courses provide you with the opportunity to further develop your skills in specific areas in terms of recreational diving through supervised dive experiences which are fun and safe. Each course consists of an academic element and a number of Adventure dives. The academic element is covered in the Adventures in Diving Manual and in addition some of the courses have their own manual. You will be provided with these in advance so you can study at your leisure and complete the Knowledge Reviews. Any videos relevant to your course are viewed at the dive centre and the knowledge reviews reviewed either at the dive centre or dive location. Speciality Diver Courses can either be completed on training weekends or if you prefer can be completed on any of the organised holidays or dive trips provided this has arranged in advance. The Speciality Diver Courses we currently offer are: . Boat - we frequently use boats to reach dive locations to distant to reach from the shore. This course develops your skills and knowledge in terms of planning, organization, procedures and techniques to use when diving from a boat. This will help you to avoid the problems and hazards and increase your enjoyment of diving from a boat. . AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation - Coral Reefs cover 600,000 square kilometres, less than 1% of the sea bottom however they are nursery grounds to 25% of marine species and 33% of known fish species. This is a land based course which enables you to learn more about this fascinating environment and how you can help to protect it. . Deep - wreck diving is popular however wrecks frequently lie in deeper water. So develop your knowledge and learn how to plan, organize and make no decompression dives safely to a maximum depth of 40metres . Drift diving is effortless because you use the current to simply glide through the water. You learn drift dive planning, how to avoid hazards, how to use special equipment and procedures to control buoyancy so you can enjoy your dive and relax. . Dry Suit - OK so sometimes the water around our shores can be a little colder. However this is not a reason not to dive, just a good reason to learn how to use a dry suit. Learn about the different types of drysuit, how to care for them and and understand the impact on your buoyancy. . Enriched Air - if the No Decompression Limits are the reason that you have to curtail your dives then you need Enriched Air. So learn how to plan and make no decompression dives using enriched air blends from 22 to 40% oxygen safely. Learn the hazards, advantages and disadvantages of using Enriched Air. . Equipment Specialist- a land based course ideal for the winter months where you will learn how to care for your kit . National Geographic- join an elite group of divers and expand your dive experience by moving from underwater tourist to explorer. . Night - if diving during the day is fun then wait until the first time you experience diving at night when there is a wealth of different marine life to see by torchlight. Learn about the extra equipment you will need and how to communicate under and above water. . Peak Performance Buoyancy (PPB) - buoyancy is one of the most important skills a diver can learn in order to avoid damaging themselves, their equipment and the marine environment. So learn how to fine tune your buoyancy skills, conserve energy and improve air consumption. . Project AWARE - This is a land based course which enables you to learn more about the fascinating marine environment and how you can help to protect it. . Search and Recovery- would you like to be able to find and recover missing objects. This course covers planning and organising searches, search techniques and techniques to safely recover objects. . Underwater Naturalist - learn how to identify various forms of marine life, this course focuses on the marine life in the environment where you dive. If you complete your course with us in the UK then we focus on UK marine life overseas we focus on the endemic marine life. . Underwater Navigation - want to be confident that you can find your way around underwater? On this course you learn underwater compass work, natural navigation techniques and time and distance estimation. . Underwater Photography and Digitial Underwater Photography- "leave only bubbles take only memories", however it is nice to be able to share and preserve those memories. These course provide you with the basics on underwater photography including composition, camera handling, dive planning, organization and how to avoid potential problems. . Wreck - wreck diving is high on the list for most divers for photographic opportunities, the marine life that surrounds them and the wreck's own history. However wrecks also present new challenges especially if you are intending to penetrate the wreck. This course covers recognizing and avoiding potential hazards, planning wreck dives and elements of research into history. Ask us about PADI's "Speciality of the Month" this entitles you to be entered in to a draw for prizes. Once you have completed five Speciality Courses if you are a Rescue Diver then you are well on your way to achieving Master Scuba Diver. The PADI Master Scuba Diver rating is the highest non-professional rating that you can attain. This coveted rating is awarded to divers that have a range of specialized experience and rescue skills to enable them to look after themselves and fellow divers with a high degree of expertise. The Master Scuba Diver is looked upon as a role model by less experienced divers. To achieve Master Scuba Diver you need to be a Rescue Diver with 50 logged dives and have successfully completed five of the Speciality Diver Courses. The first level in the PADI Professional Levels is Divemaster You will be provided in advance with manuals to study and you will complete knowledge reviews during your training which will be via internship. This offers you the opportunity to work alongside an Instructor and assist in all areas of dive centre activities.
